Yeah Write #95: Tisket

It’s time for the Speakeasy! Here’s my little 100-word charmer, called “Tisket”

A hush descended over the room as Carla cleared her throat. It was her turn to start a game at recess; no one was truly interested, since she was not much of a pal to anyone. She was always so prim and proper, coming to school in a dress, crinolines, and what should have been her Sunday patent-leather shoes. Everyone figured it would be no fun, but with Mrs. Smith watching, they behaved. Carla pulled the note and dainty basket from her desk. It wasn’t green or yellow, but would serve the purpose for the game. Even the boys smiled.

    Ooh, wickedly clever!

    • AR Neal February 6, 2013 4:08 am

Thank you! Love the prompt combo πŸ˜‰

  2. Suzanne February 6, 2013 5:47 am

Love it! Wonderfully executed – great job!

    • AR Neal February 6, 2013 3:31 pm

Thank you, Suzanne! I was on a roll yesterday…so much so that I missed an important bit of instruction (prompt=first words) and had to go make adjustments. Glad it worked πŸ™‚

  3. Stacie @ Snaps and Bits February 6, 2013 2:53 pm

Awesome little piece and great use of the prompts!

    • AR Neal February 6, 2013 3:31 pm

Thank you, Stacie! It just wrote itself πŸ™‚

  4. Sandra February 6, 2013 3:41 pm

    Very clever! Well done.

    • AR Neal February 6, 2013 3:51 pm

Thank you, Sandra! It was fun to write; gave me a chance to go listen to Ella Fitzgerald sing her version of “A tisket a tasket” πŸ™‚

  5. Bee (@LivingOffScript) February 6, 2013 5:28 pm

I love how in so few words, and so few actions, Carla gets acceptance from her peers. Well done!

    • AR Neal February 6, 2013 5:30 pm

Thank you, Bee; little kids are funny like that (at least they used to be, about a hundred years ago when I was a wee tyke…). Too bad as adults, we lose that ability to be so fluid πŸ™‚

  6. LondonS February 6, 2013 5:39 pm

Wow! It’s amazing you can pack all of that into just 100 words. Well done!

    • AR Neal February 6, 2013 5:43 pm

Thank you, Stephanie! There are times when they just write themselves…I am grateful for the folks who develop these wonderful prompts that inspire!!

      • LondonS February 6, 2013 5:50 pm

I know! I’m still a speakeasy newbie but I love it so much already.

        • AR Neal February 6, 2013 5:52 pm

          Very true! Same here πŸ™‚

  7. Kristin (@kristintwoeyes) February 6, 2013 6:27 pm

Does everyone else know this game and I don’t? Help! I feel like I am the outsider in the class again πŸ˜‰

  8. iasoupmama February 6, 2013 9:34 pm

Fun little scene — very clever!

    • AR Neal February 6, 2013 9:46 pm

Thank you so much! It was fun writing it πŸ™‚

  9. Georgina Merry February 7, 2013 12:31 pm

What a great little snapshot, I can still see her now πŸ˜€

    • AR Neal February 7, 2013 1:06 pm

      Thank you Georgina!
