This week’s prompt caused me to want to go in a variety of directions, such as describing how a child feels when tasting something for the first time, or how a sight-limited person’s sense of taste might be heightened. Instead, I went a more traditional route: describing the dream of a lover. For this week’s 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups, I offer “Of Dreams:”
Your arms wrap around me and I breathe in your love.
We come together like two halves of the same whole, melting into one another as though we have always been this way.
I’ve missed you so.
I wish you could stay.
You begin to fade away; my dreams of you are never long enough anymore.
I squeeze my eyes tight, trying to keep you with me—trying to stay with you a little longer.
Kisses: lips, eyelids, neck, chest, and beyond.
You whisper in my ear as my tongue explores you:
You: “What does it taste like?”
