Daily Prompt: Open 24 Hours

She had correctly surmised that it was still a weekday and, after showering, dressing appropriately, and doing something with the mop on top of her head, set off on the commute. After daydreaming past two early landmarks, she said out loud to the radio, “That’s it!” She turned on the cruise control, held the wheel with her left hand, and grabbed the sticky pad and pencil from the cup holder with her right; she balanced the pad on the center of the steering wheel–taking care to avoid the horn–and did her best to keep the car in lane and write down the line that had just come to her. She’d tossed and turned most of the night, her thoughts filled with ideas for the short story she had started the day before. It was going to be a long day.

Okay, this is not as far-fetched as it may sound. Well, okay, maybe it is. Shhh…I may or may not have attempted anything like this.

Our dear friends over at the Daily Post asked

Early bird, or night owl?

I must admit that while I prefer the night, I tend to be more of an early bird. However, I do keep strange hours when motivated by a story or set of ideas. I often wake up in the wee hours and have to jot down bits, or I am up early on the computer, or I sit up writing after everyone has gone to bed because a character refuses to stop talking or an image refuses to be denied until properly placed on a page. So, the best answer is that around here, we’re open 24 hours.
