Daily Prompt: What is Lo-o-ove, Anyway?

Ah, Howard Jones, an 80s dream-boat, huh?

Oh, the prompt wasn’t about all that sort of muck, eh? Sorry.

Yes, so the point was whether there is a single concept or idea that spans every kind of love. The complicated answer to that question is “nope” and here’s why:

  1. There’s the love a person has for a close companion, spouse, partner, husband/wife, or whatever term you prefer.
  2. There’s the love a person has for a parent or guardian.
  3. There’s the love a person has for a cause.
  4. There’s the love a person has for a pet.
  5. There’s the love a person has for a lost love, companion, spouse, partner, etc. etc.
  6. There’s the love a person has for their faith.

And while there is a thread of commonality that probably runs through them all, they aren’t exactly the same. I don’t feel the same about my first husband as I do about my current husband as I do about my dogs as I do about my faith as I do about my deceased dad.

We could get into a long conversation about passion, but that’s a whole ‘nother thing.

  1. Love is such an intricate feeling. It would be interesting to write about love from all those POV’s you’ve listed, wouldn’t it? I would certainly look forward to reading it : ).
