VisDare 148: Awake

It was out there and it was awake.

Hungry and searching, it knew there were survivors. She heard the breathing and held her own, attempting to minimize her output. That a child should know so much about survival would, in other situations, be sad. Having watched her mother, father, and eldest sister get taken, she had to be wise beyond her years in order to live another day to care for her two younger siblings.

And to have a chance to kill the thing that had stolen her family.
