The Starving Activist is the sometimes-home for words. AR Neal (that’s me) finds them, cultivates them, and leaves them here. Enjoy.

100WCGU: A Lake View

This week's 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups provides a wonderful prompt. I offer here my 100 words (plus the three from the prompt), and call it "A Lake View."

….beneath the surface…Ben loved living so close to the lake. His mom had been dead three years; she would have loved living here too, he concluded. The kids at school said there had been an accident in the 1800s: The story goes that there had been a bridge across the lake before; a bad storm, termite-riddled boards, and a wagon had gone in.The sound of wind-swept water lapping at the shore to Ben’s right lulled him. His eyes snapped open as he stared into the darkness below; there, beneath the surface, was a woman. She smiled and for a moment, she looked like mom.
