The Starving Activist is the sometimes-home for words. AR Neal (that’s me) finds them, cultivates them, and leaves them here. Enjoy.

Today's prompt asks

You have to learn a new skill. Do you prefer to read about it, watch someone else do it, hear someone describe it, or try it yourself?

This prompt immediately (okay, not immediately, but nearly...) made me think of the movie, Men of Honor, which chronicled the story of  Carl Brashear.  In the film, actor Cuba Gooding Jr. plays the part of MCBM Brashear and in the story lives as someone who learned his new skill by doing. As for me, I would have to admit that while I will often jump in and try something new myself, I usually try to come with a bit of head-knowledge if I find out beforehand that I have to do a thing. I will do an internet search on the task and take in what I can, wishing that I could make use of the technology in The Matrix.
