“Sir?”“Yes, child?”“Why do you sit like that?”“Like what, child?”“Like that—so still, eyes closed, a smile on your face.”“How would you have me sit?”“Well, I dunno; I guess if I were as large as you, I would do something.”“Like what?”“I dunno. Maybe scare a few people once in a while. Laugh out loud. Stand up and stretch. Pick someone up and put them on your shoulder and then walk around.”“Why would I do that?”“To show how powerful you are. You are Buddha, right?”“Yes, I am Buddha.”“Well, then! You should do something, anything! People come from all over the world to visit Bodhgaya just to see you.”“And by doing something, as you put it; what purpose would that serve?”[A sound of exasperation] “Well, it would give them a reason to worship you.”“Take a moment and look down and to your right; yes...forward a bit. What do you see?”[A sound of slight gagging and discomfort] “Um, I guess those are people worshiping and meditating.”“So it would appear. That is what happens when Buddha does what Buddha is supposed to do.”
