The Starving Activist is the sometimes-home for words. AR Neal (that’s me) finds them, cultivates them, and leaves them here. Enjoy.

Daily Prompt: San Berdoo!

As you create your Historic Rt. 66 travel itinerary, be sure to stop in and around the city of San Bernadino, known fondly as "San Berdoo" by many people in the area or who were formerly from this city of over 200,000 people in one of the largest counties in the United States. The county itself spans 20,105 square miles and is larger than 71 different sovereign nations. If you head toward San Bernadino City, remember to stop at the Wig Wam Motel in Rialto, CA. This portion of the route was brought back to the memories of those who relish in historic US sites due to the movie "Cars," which used an amalgamation of three different hotels (including the Wig Wam) to create Sally's Cozy Cone Motel.Another great stop within this historic city is the San Bernardino Railway station. The original station burned down in 1916 and the current one was built in a Spanish Mission Revival style in 1918. In fact, travel by train in early fall for the annual Route 66 Rendezvous.

As far as I'm concerned, there are so many fabulous reasons to be in San Bernardino. There are good and bad things about every area, but  for us, this is home. Thanks, Daily Post, for the reminder...
