The Starving Activist is the sometimes-home for words. AR Neal (that’s me) finds them, cultivates them, and leaves them here. Enjoy.

Daily Prompt: Ode to Falling Joy

I sat in the sun, glowing. It's rays still held enough warmth to pull me out of my cave and caused me to point my face skyward, the floaties in my eyes looking like alien amoebas through my eyelids. I put my sunglasses back on for a moment and just bask in the day, then turn my back to the mid-day brilliance and return to my pad to continue the current story brewing deep within my mind. A flutter, and a leaf freed from the clutches of the tree next to the walkway lands in the middle of my yellow pad. It is the first of many and I look forward to their dry crunch beneath my feet. In the meantime, I soak in the sun as it inexorably marches away from summer.

The folks over at the Daily Post asked

For many of us, winter is blooming into spring, or fall hardening into winter. Which season do you most look forward to?

I adore fall, even in Southern California; I am grateful for the non-palm trees in our yard because we experience the changing of the seasons through them. While it is not the same as fall in the northeast, I am grateful for every leaf. Similarly, while spring is not my favorite season (the days stay light too long...) I do enjoy watching the same trees break forth with the buds of new leaves...
