I hope you were intrigued by last week's character introduction from my soon-to-be released book, After. If you hadn't picked up on it, Ibrahim Johannes Naifeh is in a category all his own. This week's character, Mr. Mike Fleishman, is a bit more ordinary. Sort of.
Mike Siloam Fleishman works out-bound customer service at Simmons Logistics. Marlena Jacoby becomes better acquainted with Mike because of his detailed knowledge of the Bible and other faith traditions. His ability to quote Scripture reminds her of her husband, Darius who also has an intimate knowledge of the Bible.Mike is a Messianic Jew; his parents essentially disowned him after he came home from college and announced he had decided to follow a different faith tradition. They would have been even more surprised if he had shared that he had studied other forms of religion as well, including Protestant and Catholic faiths, Islam (through his association with a number of Nation of Islam brothers), and more. He did however maintain a close relationship with the campus Rabbi, but in the end that might not have pleased them much: it was Rabbi Mordecai ben Ezra who introduced him to Messianic tradition in the first place.Mike and Marlena continue to dialogue about world events, particularly as the Naifite faction grows. Mike is the first to make a clear connection between current world events and Biblical prediction.
I personally find Mike to be a great guy. I hope you'll give the text a read and offer your thoughts on him!Come on back in next week for another introduction.
